I have been watching the races..part of one last night in Arizona and the race is on now today...they said this last night and I was not going to ask as it is like a really dumb question but they did it again so I will venture out again..the word is apron....can you explain why they talk about the apron....as I watch I am assuming its the track and they all seem to take the turn on the top and go to the bottom of the tract...so am I even in the ball park here...(sorry just got done watching a base ball game)

The "apron" of the track basically refers to the bottom of the track. You'll notice at most tracks that there is a white line around the bottom of the track. Anywhere below that white line is referred to as the apron. The track itself usually has a certain degree of banking to it. The white line is there to let the drivers know where the banking stops, and the pavement begins to level off. At Daytona and Talladega, drivers are not allowed to pass below that white line. At the other tracks, if a driver says his car is tight or pushing in the corners, he might drop his left side tires onto the apron to help him turn better. Hope this helps you understand a little better.
